Leads communications and marketing to position World Scouting globally, with a strong focus on Asia-Pacific and internal regional engagement.

Job description

The Manager, Communications and Marketing, will lead and coordinate the implementation of communications, marketing, social media, and storytelling strategies for both internal and external audiences. This role plays a key part in positioning World Scouting as the world’s most inspiring and inclusive youth movement, with a strong focus on the Asia-Pacific Scout Region. The Manager will also support internal communications across the regional team and collaborate with project partners when needed, while contributing to event communications and engagement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the production of communications plans, strategies, materials, and key messages for the Asia-Pacific Scout Region’s internal and institutional communications, with a particular focus on the unity, engagement, visibility, and voice of Member Organizations. Generate and drive the production of content and impactful storytelling across all regional communication channels and web platforms internally and externally, and support the editorial standards and quality control for communications materials across the Practice Team. 

  • Support the alignment of external communication outputs with the Asia-Pacific Scout Region’s partnership and advocacy agenda by developing impact stories that enhance Scouting’s visibility and influence among stakeholders, while ensuring the communication needs of special projects are met in coordination with the Asia-Pacific Support Centre team. 

  • In coordination with the lead for World Scouting, support the Asia-Pacific Scout Region in managing crisis communications and donation appeals for crisis response, including strengthening the capacity of National Scout Organization leadership through training and learning opportunities. 

  • Contribute to the planning and delivery of Asia-Pacific Regional Scout events and World Scout events, as required, including managing sub-teams of volunteers and leading event-specific communications, media, and crisis communications plans. 

  • In coordination with the Member Support Practice Team, provide communication support to Member Organizations, as needed, through WOSM Services, and keep the Regional Communications Network updated with the latest developments in communications.

  • Conntribute to the Communications and Digital Practice Team by playing an active role in coordinating communications and marketing work, and staying up-to-date with the latest trends, technologies, and tools to drive an innovative approach to World Scouting’s work.

  • Ensure the consistent use of World Scouting’s brand, visual identity, tone, and messaging across all communications materials and platforms.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.

  • 3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or digital media roles, preferably in an international or non-profit context.

  • Proven experience in strategic communications planning, content development, and social media management.

  • Experience in event communications, including planning, media engagement, and crisis communication. 

  • Knowledge of crisis communication principles and the ability to manage sensitive issues.

  • Experience working in multicultural environments and with global audiences is an asset.

  • Fluency in English, written and spoken, is essential. Literacy in any of the other World Scouting languages (Spanish, Arabic, French) is an asset.

  • Stakeholder and volunteer coordination: Capacity to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and teams, NSOs, and partners and coordinate volunteer sub-teams effectively.

  • Digital communications and marketing tools: Proficiency in using digital platforms such as social media management tools, CMS, email marketing systems, and design applications like Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.

  • Writing, editing and content quality: Ability to write and edit clear, engaging, and accurate content for various formats, ensuring alignment with organisational voice and standards.

  • Data-driven communications and optimisation: Ability to analyse communication metrics, apply SEO and accessibility principles, and adjust strategies based on evidence and performance data.

  • Project management and organisational skills: Strong ability to plan, organise, and manage communications projects, maintaining quality and meeting tight deadlines.

  • Creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving: Creative mindset with the ability to generate new ideas, adapt quickly to changing needs, and address challenges proactively.

  • Cross-cultural and interpersonal communication: Skill in engaging effectively with diverse audiences and teams, ensuring inclusive, culturally sensitive communication.

 

Terms and Conditions

The World Scout Bureau (WSB) offers a supportive and purpose-driven working environment, in line with the employment laws and practices of the country in which the position is based. 

  • This is a full-time staff position under a three-year employment contract.

  • A monthly salary will be offered that is appropriate to the responsibilities and seniority of the role, and aligned with WSB’s compensation framework.

  • The position will be based in one of the WSB Support Centre in Manila or another remote location in the Asia-Pacific Region agreed upon with the WSB.

  • Contractual working hours are a minimum of 40 hours per week. Additional hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, may be required to fulfil the responsibilities of the role which there will be no additional remuneration

  • Leave, benefits, and entitlements will be defined according to the contract (employment or consultancy agreement), local laws, and relevant WSB policies.

  • The selected candidate must be available for occasional travel, depending on project needs and coordination with WSB teams.
